Direct sales have changed. Or I should say are gently changing over a period of time. Really this has been about for a couple of years, though not to a lot of folks use it. It\’s called attraction marketing.

People buy from people that they know and trust. They don\’t buy from companies. I know we are getting very cold in the way we try to do business today. We talk to computers, send emails, but there is no human face attached to the person on the other end of the phone or computer. That is what still makes direct sales what it has always been. Direct face to face and eye to eye contact.

Now I\’m really not lessening web marketing. I\’m a net marketer. My promotion system is a lead generation, and unearned income producer for me. If you do not have a Net presence, you\’ll soon get left behind. But we still need to get on the telephone and speak with folk. This is where the sale is closed. The human part still has to be and be there for that closing to happen.

A person moved into the new house that he and his spouse had just acquired. They were extremely excited. All the grasslands and landscaping of all of the houses in the neighborhood, were attractive. He got right to work on his. After months of fertilizing and and watering, his grass still had weeds and looked frightful. He ultimately got the nerve up to ask his neighbor for some pointers on how he could get his grass to appear like his. The person was more than pleased to help with all his landscaping wishes.

Soon the man\’s new yard started to take on a brand new look. Everything was looking fantastic. He finally asked his new neighbor how he knew so much about landscaping. He answered, \” I own my own landscaping business\”. He hired the neighbor on the spot for all his landscaping needs.

This story explains what attraction marketing is. You lead by giving out value, not by pitching some company or product. The minute you do that, people will perceive you as a leader and someone who knows what they are doing. You are separating yourself from the thousands of peddlers out their who are selling a company and chasing people around shoving their product down their throats. The most important thing you are doing, is you are building relationships. Remember, people buy from people, not companies.

Once the man in our story found out that his neighbor knew something about landscaping, and he had built a relationship with him, he was ready to buy what ever he was selling.

Good business is good relationships.

Becoming proficient at prospecting is going to take some education. Prospecting always starts on a physiological level. This is where most people, including myself, fall flat on our faces.

I am not an A-type personality. I am a good listener, quietly sitting back watching, observing and listening are my strong suites. Listening skills are very important when it comes to prospecting, but there is so much more that has to go into the mix to be good at prospecting. Listening, speaking, and saying the right things at the right times are also very important.

This might sound very complicated. I made it more complicated then it had to be, as most people do, when it comes to prospecting.

When I worked in the mortgage industry, we used to do cold calls to get leads. We were told we could go home after we got fifty No’s. Well that never happened. You see, after you would get a couple of hang-ups and some “not interested”, you would get an application. That would take some time. You would build a report with that person, and before you knew it, an hour or more has just gone by. You see my fears were all in my mind. I was paranoid for nothing.

As my knowledge grew of the products that we had, I continued to refine my prospecting skills. I was now more comfortable and relaxed talking to a client. I could now better use the strong listening techniques that I already possessed, and work harder at the ones that I didn’t.

All those calls and all those hang up’s were only a training exercise for the development of my prospecting skills. All those negatives were bringing me closer to all the applications and all those people that would say yes. My fears were all physiological. Prospecting is fun. Your phone is a friend. Those people that said no brought me closer to those that would say yes.

Remember, we are talking about attraction marketing. You have learned how to laser beam your target market. Your target market is other network marketers. We learned that in the first article of this series. If your prospecting other network marketers, your closing ratio should be very good.

Learn the art of prospecting. Learn from all the No’s. Prospecting will be something that you will be excited to do every day. I did say every day, because if you don’t make prospecting a daily routine, the forst place you will notice is in your bank account.

First there’s marketing. How many sources are you using to market your business? If you are just talking to family and friends, that’s one source. Making cold calls is another. If you are only doing one or two different types of marketing techniques, you are limiting yourself to the people you are targeting. How effective will your marketing be. You see, people respond to different things.

Have you ever heard of Google? The number one website in the world. What about Yahoo? The number two website in the world. You Tube? The third largest website in the world. Maybe you’ve heard of Face Book. Face Book, with 350 million users, is the fifth largest website in the world. Let me ask you a question. What kind of presence do you have on these, the largest websites in the world? If you don’t, why not? These are only four of the many sites that you could be marketing on.

There are two words in network marketing. Most people only focus on the word network and forget about the marketing part. They are good at getting all their family and friends out to the meetings. They may have even signed a couple, but what happens when that network runs out? Not if but when it runs out because it will run out. Then you have to learn about the second word. Marketing.

Lots of people will jump into the business arena without a clue on how to market. Would you like to parachute out of an airplane, knowing that the guy who folded your chute the night before, didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing? I didn’t think so. So how can you succeed in marketing your business into profitability, without any knowledge of what marketing is about?

When you learn how to market, it doesn’t matter what kind of business you have. When you learn how to market, you will be able to separate yourself from all the other peddlers. That’s why those that understand marketing can come into your business, and within months, shoot right up to the top of the leaders board.

Marketing to your business is like food to your body. If I don’t eat I become weak, and unable to function properly. If I don’t learn how to market, my business will become weak and unable to function properly also.

It was a big huge meeting room at a hotel where I was first introduced to the network marketing industry. A man was on stage showing a bunch of circles and explaining about how easy it is to make money in this company. That screen looked more like a football playbook then any compensation plan that I’ve ever seen. They talked about the potential of the products and how we should go about marketing these products to everyone we meet. People are just waiting to hear about this golden opportunity. Anybody been here before?

We were told to make a list of one hundred people that we knew. How many people do you know? I had a hard time thinking of who to put down, so I wrote down all my friends and family. Uncle Fred, Auntie Jean and anybody else that I could think of.

The room is filled with all the excitement. You leave all pumped and ready to go out and have your first meeting. You call everybody on your list…..How many show up? Better question is, how many are still your friends and family? I know. I did the same thing. I did it because I wanted to be successful at what I was doing and I just followed what I was told to do by the leaders of the company. They did this and they had the success to prove it….right?

There is a better way. You have to get to know who your target market is. If I wanted to start a baseball team, I would go out and find baseball players. People that understand and play the game of baseball. I don’t think that I would find baseball players at Uncle Joe’s or Auntie Jen’s. They don’t know anything about baseball.

Why do 95% of people involved in network marketing fail? They are zeroing in on the wrong target. You want to talk to other network marketers. They already know about how the business is run and you don’t have to sell them on all that stuff. If they can find something that will help them succeed at their business, they will spend their time and money. These are the people you want to target.

Would you really want to talk to your Uncle Joe, who only has a “get a job” mentality or Robert Smith, who is in the MLM industry already, but just hasn’t put it all together yet? Instead of wasting your time going to pass out fliers at the malls and having meetings at your house, focus your attention toward those people who are ready to listen to what you have to offer. You need to talk to other network marketers.

When you start to target all your energies toward the right people, you can get very specific as to what they need. Offering them the solutions to those needs is what’s coming up in rule #2 of attraction marketing.

There are only three types of people in the world. Those that make things happen. Those that watch things happen, and those that wonder, “what just happened?” Which one are you?

This is the most important rule to learn. When you have mastered this one, your business will change over night. People buy from people and not a company website. When you brand yourself you are standing out from all the other fish in the ocean. These other fish, or peddlers, are selling their companies and their companies products from a replicated website. Why do you think they call them replicated websites? They are all stamped out from the same mold, like an assembly line. They all look the same and they are all selling the same thing.

Why are 95% of all people who are inside of network marketing failing? They are all being stamped out from the same mold. Their companies are just cloning thousands of the same thing. They all look the same and they are all marketing their company and it’s products.

What do you see when you go to one of these replicated company websites? Do you see a video of you. I highly doubt it. What if you Google your company name? What do you think you will find? What you will probably find are the top leaders of your company who understand this rule of attraction marketing. I guarantee…..you won’t find you.

This kind of branding is done by some of the largest companies, like Nike, Coke and Pepsi. Why do you think they sign celebrities like Michael Jordan, Labron James and Tiger Woods to endorse their products? You’re right….Branding! They understand this most very important concept of attraction marketing.

So should you. You must brand you. You must market and sell you. You are the company, and pour out tons of valuable content that people can use and they will automatically be attracted to you like a magnet.

Here’s another reason for branding you….Ownership. You see while you are with your company, they own all your people, you own nothing. If for some reason you leave the company, you don’t take your people with you. They keep them. You don’t get a severance check from them. All your hard work is gone forever.

As you are marketing you and branding a name for yourself you are building a list of your very own loyal followers through an auto-responder like Aweber or GetResponse. This list is full of people that are following you, not a company. You are the business. You are the brand. If you and your company should ever part for any reason, you will own your list and your name.

The one thing in this world that we all truly own, and no one can ever take away from us is our name. Own yours today and start to brand and market yourself. Remember……you are the business.

I have been involved in sports my whole life. I played hockey many years ago. Contrary to what many people believe, hockey is more then just banging bodies and shooting a puck. You must be a master at your position or you will get burned. Someone once said that sports are 90% mental and 10% physical. You have to be much more then a physical specimen to play in any sport today.

How do you think Tiger Woods became one of the best golfers to ever play the game? Tiger Woods hits an eight-iron 300 times with a goal of leaving the ball within 20 feet of the pin 80 percent of the time, and making the adjustments along the way. When the game is on the line there is not another person in the world that lives for that adrenalin rush moment of making that great putt to win the game. He works very hard at being the best golfer in the world.

It’s no different than you and me. Hard work and discipline and you will become a master at your craft, putting you at the top with the rest of the top earners. Sit back and do nothing and your income will show the results of your endeavors.

You will become like the top five people that you hang around with. There is the story of three people walking down the street. One was dressed up as a clown. A little boy, walking with his mother, saw the three people. He said to his mother, ” Look Mom at the clowns”. You see the little boy just blended the other two people that were not dressed as clowns as being clowns, simply because of the clown they were walking with. You will blend into the people who you hang around wit. You may even start dressing like they do, or thinking like they do. It’s a very slow but subtle change.

Don’t walk with clowns. Walk with the successful people. People that are where you want to be. People that are doing the right things and making the right moves. Emulate those people and do what they do and you will be successful in network marketing.

If you want to be a better prospector, buy all the CD’s and train with the best of the best. Mike Dillard, Jeffery Combs, Cedrick Harris. These are the guys you want to emulate. Read all the material they print out. Go to their webinar’s. Listen to their CD’s in your car. Absorb their information like a sponge and soon you will be making those winning shots at the buzzer.

Let me ask you something. Would you want to be getting on a plane and look inside the cockpit and find the pilot reading the owners manual? I don’t think I would be getting on that plane.

I meet people everyday that want all the benefits that go along with a successful business, but they don’t want to put in the time or the work that it takes to become a true leader and a top earner in network marketing. Learn from the best. Work hard. Emulate and copy what they do and soon you will be at the top and you will become the leader that others will want to follow.

The internet and the methods that are used to market through the internet have changed, but these three fundamentals will be always with us. This is not just for the MLM business world. A women from Canada, who has a brick and mortar business, called me and wanted to learn how to use the internet to market her business. This circles all businesses.

You have a business and you want to market your products. You go and buy some targeted leads. You send out some mailers to these leads. Your costs include, postage, printing, and the cost of the leads. Your out of pocket cost is $5000.00. Your rate of response is one half of one percent. Say you get fifty customers at $100.00 an order. You just broke even.

You could have a meeting at your house and invite all of your family and friends and demonstrate your products to them. If you’ve been in any MLM business for awhile, you know where this will take you. No where. Let’s try this again, but this time we will use the internet as our means of marketing. We will take your same products, but this time we run in through an internet marketing system that costs you about $500.00. With the same results of fifty new customers at $100.00 apiece, your income is still the same at $5000.00. Because your marketing cost is only about $500.00, you just profited $4500.00.

The big thing is where do you get your leads? Your not going to find 10,000 people from calling all your family and friends. Maybe you could pay a company to call all those people and put together a list for you. There are companies that do that. They sell those lists everywhere. If any of you have every paid for these lists, you know what I’m talking about. Did it work out well for you?

What is you had a system that could generate a list for you? These are people who are really interested in what you are doing. It’s not free. It will cost you a whole whopping…..ready….about 30 to 50 cents a lead. This is your list that you own. These people got in touch with you. They are interested in you. You didn’t have to have a meeting or run around chasing everyone. This is called internet marketing. This is how we feed our families.

The definition for insanity was given perfectly by Albert Einstein when he said, “doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” What if everything you have depends on your success? This applies to just about all of us. Hernan Cortes conquered Mexico back in 1519. There were tens of thousands of Aztec warriors against his measly band of about 400 men. Some of his men began to run. Cortes ordered all his ships, except one, to be sunk. Now his men had no escape. He told his men this simple speech. “Conquer or die”. They had no other choice.

The way we do business today has taken the biggest hit from the internet and our world economy. The entrance of the internet has given businesses the ability to grow and spread at lightening speed. You may just want to throw a website together, (they don’t cost very much), and hit the ground running. I must caution you that there is a 97% failure rate at online internet businesses.

Multi Level Marketing businesses are probably the safest way to go, and more and more of them are using the internet, and not just the door to door sales mentality. Having meetings in homes and chasing family and friends to get your prospects, is the old fashioned way to do business. With the use of internet marketing, you can get your product or service, in front of the 1.5 billion people who use the internet everyday. Yes, I said billion with a B, and this will continue to rise every year.

To tap into these internet marketing strategies, many of which are free, does take some training and work to develop the right kind of techniques for your specific business needs. Ever since Richard Nixon took us off the gold standard back in 1971, the dollar has faltered. That green paper you carry around is just that. Paper! But whenever the dollar falls the price of silver and gold go up.

I have been in the network marketing business for just a short time compared to my business partners. I was involved with some very well known companies a long time ago and recently I have been using an internet marketing system that is second to none. It has completely changed the way I do business today.

The best way to hedge against inflation and the falling dollar is to invest in commodities. Gold, silver, copper, and real estate. Real estate is a tremendous investment right now, if you can get a bank to loan you the money. But how about gold and silver?

Gold is about $1200 an ounce, and silver is going for about $18.00 an ounce. According to Robert Kiyosaki, silver is the better buy right now than gold. He says you should be buying it up. Why?

1. There is more gold then there is silver. 2. Silver is used in manufacturing more then gold. 3. You can buy 60 ounces of silver for every once of gold.

We need to take a long hard look at our budgets. I know it’s not easy, but see what you could save if you cut out Starbucks everyday. Maybe drop one of those movie channels or see if you can’t car pool to the office. If you find a way to save a hundred bucks a month and invest that green paper for some real money… Silver money. Just think where you would be by the end of the year. At the end of five years?

I don’t know how you are about new years resolutions, but this one sounds worth looking into. Putting your paycheck into a bank that pays you 2.5% or in silver that could pay 50% or more.

What if silver goes up to $100 an once? It’s possible….Then what would be the color of your money?
